Median

Economics Glossary – Malone Global University

Definition

The middle value in a dataset when the observations are arranged from lowest to highest.

Why It Matters

The median provides a more representative measure of the typical value than the average when data are skewed by extreme outliers.

Example

If five salaries are listed from lowest to highest, the third salary is the median.
