Non Recourse Loans

Economics Glossary – Malone Global University

Definition

Loans secured by collateral where the lender’s only recovery option in default is to seize the pledged asset, with no claim on the borrower’s other assets.

Why It Matters

Non-recourse loans limit borrower liability but increase lender risk and often carry stricter approval terms.

Example

If a borrower defaults on a non-recourse real estate loan, the lender can take the property but cannot pursue additional personal assets.
