Unsecured Loan

Economics Glossary – Malone Global University

Definition

An unsecured loan is a loan that is not backed by collateral, so approval and interest rates depend largely on the borrower’s creditworthiness and income.

Why It Matters

Because lenders face higher risk, unsecured loans often carry higher interest rates and stricter credit requirements than secured loans.

Example

A personal loan or most credit card debt is unsecured because there is no specific collateral.
