Warrant

Economics Glossary – Malone Global University

Definition

A warrant is a financial instrument issued by a company that gives the holder the right, but not the obligation, to buy the company’s stock at a specified price before a certain date.

Why It Matters

Warrants can raise capital for firms and provide leveraged upside for investors, but they also can dilute existing shareholders if exercised.

Example

A company issues warrants allowing investors to buy shares at $10 within five years.
