Unit 13: Linear & Nonlinear Systems
In this unit, we explore systems of equations, which are sets of two or more equations with the same variables. Systems can be linear (equations of lines) or nonlinear (equations involving quadratics, circles, parabolas, or other curves). You will learn to solve these systems algebraically and graphically, and apply them to real-world problems.
Unit Goals
- Solve linear systems by graphing and algebraic methods (substitution, elimination).
- Solve nonlinear systems algebraically and graphically, and compare methods.
- Model and solve application problems that lead to linear and nonlinear systems.
- Analyze mixed systems that combine linear and nonlinear equations and interpret solution sets.
- Develop strategies for checking and verifying solutions in applied contexts.
