About This Directory

This directory identifies individuals whose actions materially supported Black freedom, citizenship, civil rights, political participation, legal equality, or resistance to racial oppression. “Ally” is used as an analytical classification within the MGU biography collection. Inclusion does not imply that every position, policy, or action taken by a person was aligned with Black interests. Individual biographies should distinguish substantive support from symbolic association and assess each subject within the historical record.
