New Jersey Case
Lucas was separately convicted in New Jersey narcotics proceedings and received a 25-to-30-year state sentence intended to run consecutively to the federal term, producing a combined sentence exceeding seventy years.
Cooperation
Lucas later became a government cooperator. His federal sentence was reduced to time served in 1981, and New Jersey authorities also reconsidered his state sentence in light of his assistance.
