Indictment
In January 2005, federal prosecutors charged Kenneth McGriff and associates with racketeering, narcotics trafficking, murder, and related financial crimes. The indictment described a later McGriff enterprise distinct in scale and operating model from the original 1980s Supreme Team.
Eric Smith and Troy Singleton
The government charged McGriff in connection with the July 2001 killing of Eric Smith and subsequently proved that McGriff arranged both Smith’s murder and the October 2001 killing of Troy Singleton.
Conviction and Sentence
In 2007, a federal jury convicted McGriff of racketeering, two murder-for-hire homicides, narcotics trafficking, and illegal financial transactions involving drug proceeds. He received life imprisonment.
Organizational Significance
This case should be maintained separately from the earlier Supreme Team federal RICO case involving Gerald Miller. The later prosecution documents McGriff’s post-incarceration enterprise and its wider geographic reach.
