Overview
On July 21, 1987, a federal grand jury indicted 26 individuals suspected of working for Young Boys Incorporated. A superseding indictment returned on October 30 charged RICO, RICO conspiracy, and heroin-conspiracy offenses.
Trial and Appeal
Seven defendants went to trial in March 1988. Five were convicted on one or more RICO or narcotics counts. The Sixth Circuit affirmed the relevant convictions in 1989.
Enterprise Finding
The appellate case is important because it treats YBI as a continuing RICO enterprise despite interruptions following earlier convictions. The court recounted evidence that Milton Jones continued directing activity from prison through Portia Jones and other members.
