Event
Troy Singleton was shot and killed after leaving a nightclub in Queens on October 21, 2001. Federal prosecutors described him as a close associate of Eric “E. Money Bags” Smith.
Motive
The government proved that McGriff’s organization arranged Singleton’s murder to prevent him from retaliating for Smith’s killing.
Cash Money Brothers Connection
In the later CMB prosecution, federal prosecutors identified Aaron “E-Bay” Granton as a participant in the Singleton contract murder. They stated that Granton was recruited by the Supreme Team because his CMB killings had established his reputation as an effective enforcer.
Historical Significance
The Singleton murder is one of the clearest documented examples in this research volume of a violent specialist from one borough-based criminal organization being recruited by another organization for a specific homicide.
