Event

In December 1982 federal authorities announced a major enforcement action against Young Boys Incorporated following a two-year investigation. Contemporary UPI reporting stated that 41 suspects had been indicted, 18 had been arrested, and authorities were seeking additional defendants.

Seizures and Allegations

Authorities reported seizing approximately $1.3 million in currency during the investigation, along with heroin, cocaine, and other evidence. Contemporary estimates of YBI’s sales volume were extremely large and should be presented as law-enforcement estimates rather than audited financial figures.

Aftermath

The Sixth Circuit later stated that convictions in 1983 substantially reduced YBI activity but did not end the enterprise entirely. Later federal evidence supported continued YBI-related activity through 1987.
