Overview
The federal CMB indictment announced in July 2005 followed an 18-month joint investigation involving Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the FBI, the NYPD, and the Eastern District of New York.
Investigative Scope
The investigation combined narcotics evidence with homicide, witness-retaliation, kidnapping, firearms, and racketeering allegations. This made the case broader than a conventional drug-distribution prosecution and allowed investigators to reconstruct a decade-long pattern of territorial control and retaliatory violence.
Long-Term Prosecution
The investigation and prosecution continued for more than a decade. In 2016, the Justice Department recognized members of the prosecution and investigative team for work that culminated in the convictions and life sentences of Damion Hardy and Aaron Granton.
