Overview
Operation Motor City Mafia was launched in October 2003 as a coordinated Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force investigation into the Black Mafia Family. Detroit DEA agents targeted the Flenory organization and used court-authorized wiretaps to trace cocaine transactions and interstate distribution relationships.
Wiretaps and Interstate Mapping
Intercepted communications involving Terry and Demetrius Flenory led investigators to distributors in other jurisdictions. A later Sixth Circuit case involving Louisville distributor Toree Sims describes how Detroit wiretap intelligence led directly to additional wiretaps and prosecution outside Michigan.
2005 Takedown
The nationwide October 28, 2005 enforcement action resulted in dozens of arrests and major seizures of cocaine, currency, assets, and weapons. Subsequent investigations and indictments continued in multiple federal districts.
