Overview
George Ford was a retailer in the Frank Lucas heroin enterprise supplying upper Manhattan.
Role in the Network
After Ford and Lucas were indicted in a federal narcotics case, Ford agreed in 1974 to cooperate against Lucas. On July 24, 1974, Ford was shot and killed near his candy store. A later New York prosecution alleged that Martin Trowery was the shooter and that Lucas had arranged the killing; those allegations generated a major immunity dispute in People v. Lucas.
Legal Record
The 1980 New York Supreme Court opinion documents the homicide investigation and indictment of Lucas and Trowery but is a pretrial ruling, not a final homicide conviction. The encyclopedia therefore distinguishes the killing itself from the later prosecution theory.
