Overview
Larry Chambers and his brother Billy Joe Chambers organized and directed an extensive Detroit crack-cocaine distribution network known in federal court as the Chambers Brothers Organization. The conspiracy operated from approximately 1983 through February 1988.
Organization
The Sixth Circuit described a widespread, carefully structured operation with narcotics sales reaching as much as $200,000 per day. The organization used multiple Detroit locations and maintained a group of enforcers called the “wrecking crew.”
Federal Case
Larry Chambers was convicted of conspiracy and operating a continuing criminal enterprise. On remand after appellate review of overlapping counts, the district-court record reflects a life sentence on the continuing-criminal-enterprise conviction.
Historical Position
The Chambers organization rose during the period when federal prosecutions had weakened Young Boys Incorporated. That is best understood as market succession and opportunity rather than evidence that Larry Chambers worked for YBI.
