Overview
Troy Singleton was identified by federal prosecutors as a close associate of Eric Smith. After Smith was murdered in July 2001, prosecutors alleged that McGriff’s organization arranged Singleton’s murder to prevent retaliation.
Murder
Singleton was killed on October 21, 2001 after leaving a nightclub in Queens. Federal prosecutors stated that the shooters fired repeatedly at close range and continued firing after he fell.
Brooklyn–Queens Connection
A later federal prosecution of the Brooklyn-based Cash Money Brothers identified Aaron “E-Bay” Granton as a participant in Singleton’s contract murder. The government stated that Granton had been recruited by a separate gang known as the Supreme Team because of his reputation as an effective killer.
