Overview
Federal prosecutors distinguished Kenneth McGriff’s later organization from the original 1980s Supreme Team. The later enterprise trafficked wholesale quantities of heroin and cocaine, reached beyond New York into Maryland and North Carolina, and used contract violence against perceived rivals.
Relationship to the Supreme Team
The later enterprise was led by the same central figure and was sometimes described in later government releases using the Supreme Team name. For encyclopedia purposes, the two phases should be connected but not automatically treated as organizationally identical. The original Supreme Team was a South Jamaica street-level crack organization; the later McGriff enterprise operated on a broader geographic and wholesale scale.
Homicide Branch
Federal prosecutors proved that McGriff arranged the 2001 murders of Eric “E. Money Bags” Smith and Troy Singleton. The Smith murder was described as retaliation for McGriff associate Colbert “Black Just” Johnson’s death; Singleton was killed to prevent anticipated retaliation.
