Overview
The Cash Money Brothers (CMB) were a Brooklyn-based street gang that federal prosecutors said controlled narcotics trafficking in Lafayette Gardens for more than a decade. The organization combined crack distribution with violence against rival dealers, witnesses, and perceived threats.
Geographic Base
CMB’s principal base was the Lafayette Gardens Houses in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn. Federal records describe members using apartments in the development to cook, store, and package crack cocaine.
Leadership and Membership
Federal prosecutors identified Damion “World” Hardy as the gang’s leader and Aaron “E-Bay” Granton as a top enforcer. The 2005 federal indictment named thirteen leaders, members, and associates.
Conflict with Ivery Davis
The organization’s most consequential documented rivalry involved Ivery “Peanut” Davis and his associates. After the 1999 killing of Hardy’s brother Myron, prosecutors alleged that CMB undertook a multi-year retaliation campaign involving multiple homicides.
Connection to Queens
CMB was a distinct Brooklyn organization, but one member provides a documented cross-borough link. In 2001, Granton was recruited by a separate Queens gang identified by prosecutors as the Supreme Team to participate in the contract murder of Troy Singleton.
Federal Case
A federal indictment was announced in July 2005 after an 18-month joint ICE, FBI, and NYPD investigation. Hardy and Granton were ultimately convicted in 2015 and received multiple life sentences; the Second Circuit affirmed in 2017.
