How to Use This Navigation Guide
Malone Global University is a large educational website with thousands of pages across departments, library collections, tutorials, reference materials, fiction projects, community pages, and special educational systems. This guide explains the main structure of the site so students, readers, teachers, and visitors can understand where to begin and how to move from one area to another.
The site is organized around function. Some areas are designed for formal study, some are designed for reference, some are designed for exploration, and some are designed to explain how MGU itself works. The goal of this page is to make the site feel less like a maze and more like a campus map.
If you are new to Malone Global University, begin with the overview below. If you already know what you are looking for, use the main sections to jump directly into the area that best matches your purpose.

Navbars and Breadcrumbs
Websites are goups of webpages linked together by means of hyperlinks. A navigation bar is a grouped list of links. This is the main way to travel form page ot page. On every page on this website there are two navigation bars; the main navbar at top built into the header, and the bottom navbar at the bottom of pages.
The first on is built into the header at the top of every page. It is called the Top Nav (top-nav) which is short for "top navigation menu bar".
The links it contains go to major ares of the site. Each area contains many more webpages in a top down hierachy. At the far right of ther last link in the topnav is a button for controlling the dark mode theme. The button can be toggled (switched on/off) to activate or deactivate the "Dark Mode" them. Dark mode can help make the screen easier to see at night or bright sunlight to reduce glare.
The bottom-nav is the second navbar which is located at the bottom of pages. It contains links to 1. Top of page 2. Department Directory 3. Library 4. Home.
Breadcrumbs are small navigation menu bars found under teh hero on every page. They are made showing the exact path from home to subdomain to lower subdomain... to current page. There are different ways to make breadcrumbs. This site uses a generic version that shows exact path to current page. Titles in breadcrumbs are made using the folder names of the url paths. Breqadcrumbs are called that because they refer to hansel and Gretel... you use breadcrumbs to track your path back to Home.
At the top of this page is a section called "On This Page" that has a list of links. Such a list is generically called a page index. For this site a page index will usually contain links that go off the current page to a deeper page one level down, or sometimes a page in the same folder. Specifically if a page index says "On This Page" the links jump to lower sections of the current page and do not leave it.
We have covered the main types of links but there are still two minor types left. Within paragraph text may exist cross links. They will be a different color or hue than the text around it and bold. When you hover a mouse pointer over them the pointer with change from arrow to finger and the text with glow and change color slightly when hovering above them. Cross links are often used to redirect from a main topic to explain hightlighted vocabulary words or technical jargon. A main idea is to pause reading the main article, click on highlited words for more information, then go back to the main artivle with a fuller understanding.
The last type of links on this site are image links. The best example is the MGU logo in upper left corner of the header. Clicking it takes a user to the Home page of the site. Image links might appear in lessons for various reasons. One idea is that during a lesson an image from department courses might link to encyclopedia articles. This is a variation of cross liniking with the same idea: Pause the main lessons, read teh extra information in the library article, then return to the lesson with new knowledge that helps complete a given task. The frees up lesson pages so that if a person already knows the basic information they do not have to brush up on review material. Likewise, if a person is unfamiliar with a subject they can read remidial material to cath up to others and advance through the course with greater confidence.
Primary Site Areas
Malone Global University is divided into several major areas. Each area has a different purpose, but all of them support the larger mission of building a structured educational environment. Top level subdomains "hero banners" are color coded with matching body text and accents to show affiliation:

- Department = Blue Pages have blue text and accents
- Library = Red Pages have red text and accents

Example:
https://the-domain-goes-here.com/the-subdomain-goes-here.html
A "domain" is the name of a website given by what is inbetween https:// and .com.

How the Site Is Organized
The MGU website is built as a layered structure. The top-level areas help visitors choose the kind of resource they need. Inside each top-level area, pages are grouped by topic, function, subject, or collection. This makes it possible for the site to grow without forcing every page into one giant menu.
A visitor should usually begin by asking a simple question: “What am I trying to do?” If the goal is to study a subject, the department area is usually the best place to start. If the goal is to look something up, the library is usually the best place to start. If the goal is to learn how to perform a practical task, tutorials may be the best place to start. If the goal is to understand the website itself, orientation is the correct area.
This functional structure allows Malone Global University to support several kinds of learning at the same time: formal study, independent reading, research, quick reference, guided tutorials, and exploration.
Main
The main area is the front entrance of Malone Global University. It introduces the identity of the site, connects visitors to major sections, and provides a general starting point for people who are not yet sure where they need to go.
Use the main area when you want a broad overview of MGU, when you are returning to the site after being deep inside a section, or when you want to reorient yourself around the largest categories.
The main area should stay simple, clear, and visitor-friendly. It should not try to hold every detail of the website. Its job is to point people toward the correct major branch.
The Main pages are the pages for preliminary introduction to the website. They are the Main home page when you first reach the site maloneuniversity.org/ plus the all the orientation pages at maloneuniversity.org/orientation.
Orientation
The orientation area explains how Malone Global University works. It is the place for navigation guides, site maps, user help, new visitor pages, structural explanations, and other pages that make the website easier to understand.
This navigation guide belongs in the orientation area because it explains the site as a whole. Other orientation pages may explain how to use the Library, how to follow a department pathway, how to read course pages, how to find resources, or how major MGU systems connect to one another.
Use orientation when you feel lost, when you are trying to understand how the website is organized, or when you want a guided explanation before exploring the larger site. The Orientation Pages are comprised of:
-

Department
The department area is the academic course and subject structure of Malone Global University. It is where disciplines are organized into departments, pathways, courses, lessons, and learning sequences.
A department page is usually the best starting point when you want to study a subject systematically. For example, a student looking for mathematics, physics, computer science, writing, history, business, or another academic field would normally begin in the department area.
Department pages can connect to lessons, textbook chapters, course outlines, subject indexes, practice materials, and other structured learning resources. This area is designed for progression: beginning with broad subjects, moving into courses, and then moving into individual learning units.
Departments are designed as tradional academic departments such as "The Math Department" or "The Science Department". Inside each department are branches or divisions of that department such as geometry and claculus are branches of the math department. The index page located at maloneuniversity.org/department is called the "MGU Departmetn Directory". It contains all the academic deprtaments which hold all the courses and lessons taught at MGU. The 16 individual departments currently taught are located at:

Library
The library area is the organized knowledge system of Malone Global University. It is designed for lookup, reading, research, reference, exploration, and long-term knowledge organization.
The MGU Library is not limited to one kind of material. It can contain dictionaries, encyclopedias, guides, reference works, fiction, educational collections, and special projects. The library is best understood as the place where knowledge is stored, classified, explained, and made searchable.
Use the library when you want to look up a concept, read an article, explore a discipline, find a reference page, browse a collection, or study a topic outside the structure of a formal course.
Major Library Areas
-
Dictionary
A structured reference system for definitions, terms, phrases, and specialized vocabulary used across the MGU website.
-
Encyclopedia
A broad article-based knowledge system organized by domains, disciplines, subdisciplines, and individual topics.
-
Fiction
A creative library area for stories, literary projects, fictional worlds, characters, and narrative collections.
-

Practical and explanatory guide pages that help readers understand systems, processes, resources, and learning pathways.
-
Malonicus Rex Educare

-
Tutorials
The tutorials area is for practical instruction. It can include software setup guides, technical walkthroughs, computer-use help, applied skill pages, and other resources that teach a specific task.
Tutorials are placed at a major navigation level because they serve a different purpose from textbooks, encyclopedia articles, and dictionary entries. A tutorial is often about doing something: installing a tool, using a program, setting up a workflow, solving a practical problem, or completing a technical process.
Some tutorial topics may eventually move into formal courses if they become part of a stable class pathway. Other tutorials may remain independent because they are useful as quick practical references.
News
The Malone Panther area supports the creative and symbolic identity of Malone Global University. It may include mascot-related pages, character materials, stories, visual identity resources, and special branded content connected to the MGU world.
This area is separate from the formal academic and library systems because it serves a different role. It helps give the site personality, continuity, and creative identity while supporting the larger educational mission.

Navigation Tips
Breadcrumbs show where a page sits inside the site. They are especially useful on deep pages because they let you move back up to a parent section, collection, department, or index.
Page indexes are useful when you want to browse a group of related pages. A department index may show courses or subjects. A library index may show collections or topics. A tutorial index may show practical guides grouped by task or tool.
Bottom navigation (bottom-navs) helps connect nearby pages and gives visitors another way to continue after finishing a page. On a large website, repeated navigation tools help prevent dead ends. Bottom-navs contain a back to top link which return s the user to the top of the page where they can click breadcrumb lonks to return to previous pages.
Using a keyboard and holding the alt key they pressing back or forward arrow with go to the previous page or next pages visited. Using a mouse with side click buttons is faster and achieves the same effect.
Bookmarking frequently visited pages, such as the home page, saves time. Users should also bookmark pages that are especially deep to save time and bandwidth navigating to them. There are many different ways to bookmark a page that are covered in computing basics here → Bookmarking basics.
Manual entry can always be used to visit a webpage by typing in the full url in the address bar of a browser. For advanced users this site is designed so that urls end with forward slashes instead of old-school ".html" so that they can type an ending partial url quickly. This is helpful in some contexts for people who are faster using keyboard inputs than mouse clicks.
Orientation is a bit redundant since you are already here but to reinterate or in case you jumped here by accident: The orientation area explains how the website works. It includes navigation help, site maps, user guidance, and pages that help visitors understand the structure and purpose of MGU.
A Living Campus Map
This navigation guide should grow as Malone Global University grows. As new departments, collections, tutorials, references, and projects are added, this page can become the stable explanation layer that helps visitors understand how everything fits together.
The purpose is not to list every page on the website. The purpose is to explain the logic of the site so visitors can make good choices, find the right area, and move confidently through MGU.
