Connection to Frank Lucas
The strongest documentary chain is explicit: Vernon Lucas worked for Atkinson, sent money to Bangkok, received heroin, and transferred it to Frank Lucas for distribution in New York. People v. Lucas separately characterizes Atkinson and Jackson as the wholesale-supply side of Lucas’s heroin enterprise.
Myth versus Record
The court record documents a sophisticated military-connected import conspiracy, but it does not support treating the famous “heroin hidden in dead soldiers’ coffins” story as established fact. That claim derives largely from later Lucas narratives and has been disputed.
